Nimfa Bautista – Meeting the Challenges

Nimfa Bautista has over 16 years experience in the field of hospitality. Originally from the Philippines, she immigrated to Nova Scotia with her husband, a graphic designer, and their son in August of 2010. They learned about Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia while still in Manila through the Canadian Immigration Integration Project (CIIP). “Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia was our top of mind when we first landed here – we were hungry for information and Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia made us better prepared to meet the challenges of working in Nova Scotia.”

Being a new immigrant, the Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia programs gave me the extra tools needed to get me back on my feet. Without these programs, I would have a difficult time, and thanks to Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia, I nailed my job on my first interview! I wouldn’t be where I am now without their help.

Nimfa took part in Pre-Employment Workshops and the Customer Service at Work Online course. These programs helped improve her knowledge of how to write an appropriate resume and cover letter. They also helped develop her interpersonal skills and taught her the nuances of how to approach a job interview with confidence. Customer Service at Work Online provided her with the specific language and skills she needs to work in her field in Nova Scotia. Nimfa currently works as the Guest Services Officer at the Comfort Hotel.

Nimfa says her best experience was a practice interview with a real professional from the tourism industry. “This real life, face-to-face interaction was a learning experience and after that, everything was a breeze!”
